Two lengths and an extender

Choker at the base of the neck, usually 14 to 16 inches. Princess sits just below the collarbone, usually 18 inches. If a chain you already wear sits right, measure that length and buy that inch. An extender is one or two extra inches when the listed length is close. It is not a substitute for measuring.

Open collars can take a choker. A high neck usually cannot. Do not buy a choker for a turtleneck you already packed. A park week in Orlando is a crew, a collared shirt, and a lot of sunscreen. The chain has to survive the bag, then sit where you measured it at home.

Base of the neck

A choker wants air at the collar. If the neckline already covers the collarbone, this length disappears under cloth and feels like a tight loop you cannot fix in a park bathroom. Skip it. Buy princess, or skip jewelry that day.

Just below the collarbone

An 18-inch princess is the default day length. It clears a crew and still shows on an open collar. If the chain you measured at home was 18 inches and it already sits where you like, stop shopping. Do not add a second 18-inch chain because the first photo looked sparse.

If princess is short

Twenty inches is the next named length, not a guess. Buy it if 18 inches already felt tight at home, or if you want a disc to sit lower on a shirt. Do not stack 18 and 20 as filler for the same neckline.

Close the gap

If the named inch is close, an extender is the small job. One or two inches. Twist it onto the clasp. Do not buy a choker and hope two extra inches save a turtleneck. The extender does not move a high neck out of the way.

Write the inch

A cloth tape is the tool. Wrap a chain you already wear, or wrap the neck at the height you want. Write that number down before you search. Air-conditioning size is the size. A walk on International Drive will not change a necklace the way it changes a closed bangle.

Pouch for the bag

A drawstring pouch is for the chain in a park bag. Sunscreen and rain wreck a loose chain in a zip pocket. The pouch is not a length. Pack it after you already know the inch. Do not buy a pouch instead of measuring.

Order of purchase
